Income Sign

Lesson 12 of 18 in Coddy's Roblox Game: Factory Tycoon course.

Owners love a number going up. The sign will show what the factory earns a second, under the owner's name. The collector adds every payment to an earned counter; every 5 seconds a loop shows earned / 5 and starts the count again.

Counting what the collector paid, rather than how Cash changed, keeps purchases out of it: buying something should not look like negative income.

The sign's first line is the factory's headline, a variable: the owner's name now, and other news later. The loop writes headline, a new line (\n), then the income.

setSign(headline .. "\n$" .. math.floor(earned / 5) .. " a second")

Challenge

Medium

Show the income:

  1. Near the top: local headline = "Step on the green pad to claim this factory" and local earned = 0.
  2. In the collector, add each payment to earned.
  3. When the factory is claimed, set headline to the owner's name line and show it.
  4. Start a loop (in task.spawn): every 5 seconds, if there is an owner, show the headline and $N a second on the next line, with N the earnings divided by 5 and rounded down; then reset earned.

Press Play and watch the number, then Check.
