The Sign
Lesson 7 of 22 in Coddy's Roblox Game: Factory Tycoon course.
A sign over the factory says whose it is. Text on a part's face is a SurfaceGui in the part, holding a TextLabel. Named labels are easy to find again, and a small function keeps every change to the sign in one place:
local gui = Instance.new("SurfaceGui")
gui.Parent = tycoon.Sign
local signLabel = Instance.new("TextLabel")
signLabel.Name = "Status"
signLabel.Size = UDim2.fromScale(1, 1)
signLabel.TextScaled = true
signLabel.Text = "Opening soon"
signLabel.Parent = guiUDim2.fromScale(1, 1) makes the label fill the whole face, and TextScaled fits the words to it.
Challenge
MediumPut a sign over the factory that says whose it is.
- In
tycoon.Sign, add a SurfaceGui holding a TextLabel namedStatusthat fills it, with scaled text readingStep on the green pad to claim this factory. - Write
setSign(text), which sets that label's Text. - When the factory is claimed, call
setSign(player.Name .. "'s Factory").
Press Play and step on the green pad: the sign shows your name. Then Check.
