Exact MATCH

MATCH(key, range, 0) returns the one-based position of an exact match inside a single row or column. It returns a position, not the matched cell's content and not the worksheet row number.

E2 contains P1, A2 contains P3, A3 contains P1, A4 contains P2.

Example: =MATCH(E2,A2:A4,0).

P1 is the second item of the range, even though it is on worksheet row three.

Use 0 for exact MATCH; its result is a one-based position inside the lookup range.

The practice sheet highlights cells where you should enter formulas. The same formulas must work when the tests replace the input data.
