Solving sin 2x
Part of the Trig Equations and Inverses section of Coddy's Trigonometry journey. Lesson 37 of 56.
Solve 2sin(2x) = 1 on [0°, 360°). Divide by 2: sin(2x) = 1/2. Over two turns, 2x = 30°, 150°, 390° or 510°. Halve each: x = 15°, 75°, 195° or 255°.
Check one: x = 195° gives 2x = 390°, which ends where 30° does, and sin 30° is 1/2. On the board the arcsin chip knows 2x makes two turns and writes all four cases; the halving is yours to check.
Challenge
Solve 2sin(2x) = √3 for every x in [0°, 360°), then press Check.
