Back Rank Revisited
Part of the Tactics section of Coddy's Chess journey. Lesson 31 of 48.
You glance at your own back rank every game now. Real opponents leave a guard on the mate square - and a guarded mate square is not a mate square yet. Remove the guard, drag it, or overload it, and do it with check when you can: a quiet capture hands them one pawn-step of air.
