Queen Next to the King

Part of the Tactics section of Coddy's Chess journey. Lesson 33 of 48.

The queen mates from any square touching the king - she covers his whole neighbourhood by herself. The only real question is can he take her? The pattern has exactly two halves: land touching, and be protected when you land. One without the other is a harmless check, or a catastrophe.
