Equal Parts of a Corner

Part of the Angles section of Coddy's Geometry journey. Lesson 15 of 62.

When the two parts of an angle are equal, the unknown appears twice, and twice the unknown is written 2x. Two equal parts filling a right angle give 2x = 90, so each part is 45°.

A right angle split into two equal parts of x degrees

Dividing both sides by 2 undoes the doubling: from 2x = 90 to x = 45. The same idea scales to any whole: equal parts mean multiply, and finding one part means divide.
