A Capacitor in a Circuit
Part of the Electricity and Magnetism section of Coddy's Physics journey. Lesson 34 of 51.
Once charged, a capacitor lets no current through: its branch is a break in the wire.
Work out the circuit without it; then it has the voltage of what it is across, and Q = C V.
Challenge
An ideal 12 V battery drives a current through a 4 Ω and a 2 Ω resistor in series. A 5 μF capacitor is connected across the 2 Ω resistor. How much charge Q does the capacitor hold once it is charged?
