Discharging a Capacitor
Part of the Electricity and Magnetism section of Coddy's Physics journey. Lesson 36 of 51.
Discharging through a resistor:
q = Q e^(−t/RC)
After one τ = RC, 37% is left. The voltage falls the same way, and the stored energy becomes heat in the resistor.
Challenge
A 200 μF capacitor charged to 10 V discharges through a 5 kΩ resistor. How much charge q is left 2 s later?
