Don't Move It Twice
Part of the Playing Real Games section of Coddy's Chess journey. Lesson 8 of 40.
The opening is a race, and the currency is tempo: one move. A piece that moves twice has paid two for one square. A pawn push that develops nothing pays and gets nothing. Develop each piece once, to a square it can keep - and when your move also makes a threat, they are the ones who move twice.
