Games end in draws more often than beginners expect, and the rules are worth knowing before they happen to you. The same position three times: repetition. Fifty moves by each side with no capture and no pawn move: the fifty-move rule. Neither side able to mate, ever: a dead position. And, of course, you may simply agree.
