Momentum
Part of the Mechanics section of Coddy's Physics journey. Lesson 62 of 94.
Momentum is mass times velocity:
p = m v
It points the same way as the velocity, and its unit is kg·m/s. On a line, a momentum the negative way is negative.
A light object can match a heavy one by moving faster: 1 kg at 8 m/s and 4 kg at 2 m/s both have 8 kg·m/s.
A light, fast cart and a heavy, slow cart can carry the same momentum.
Challenge
A 0.16 kg hockey puck slides across the ice with a momentum of 4 kg·m/s. Find its speed v.
