Turning a Rule Around

Part of the Mechanics section of Coddy's Physics journey. Lesson 3 of 97.

One rule answers more than one question. v=dtv = \frac{d}{t} gives the speed, but it also gives the distance when you know the speed and the time.

Write the rule the way you know it. The board takes any true form of it, so v=dtv = \frac{d}{t} and d=vtd = vt are both right.

Then turn it around in Solve. Multiply both sides of v=dtv = \frac{d}{t} by t, and d stands alone: d=vtd = vt.

Bit walks at 2 m/s2\ \mathrm{m/s} for 30 s30\ \mathrm{s}: d = 2 · 30 = 60 m60\ \mathrm{m}.
