A Menu for Sky Runner
Part of the Game Rules section of Coddy's Pygame journey. Lesson 29 of 30.
Sky Runner gets the rules from this section, starting with a menu. A new game needs everything back at its start, so put that in reset(): a new runner, an empty group, the speed and the score, and both timers started again.
Space now does two jobs, one per state:
if state == "play":
runner.jump()
elif state == "menu":
reset()
state = "play"The menu needs two centred lines and the game over screen will need three, so a small function draws one line centred at x 320:
def show(text, text_font, y):
picture = text_font.render(text, True, INK)
screen.blit(picture, picture.get_rect(center=(320, y)))The score belongs to a game, so show it only once one has started, not on the menu.
Challenge
MediumGive Sky Runner a menu.
- Write
reset()for the runner, the group,speed,scoreand both timers; call it before the loop and setstate = "menu". - On the menu, use
show()forSky Runnerinbig_fontandPress Space to start; show the score only off the menu. - Space on the menu calls
reset()and setsstate = "play".
Press Play: Space starts a run. Then Check.
