The Best Score
Part of the Game Rules section of Coddy's Pygame journey. Lesson 19 of 29.
A score means more next to the best one so far. Keep the best in its own variable, and update it the moment a game ends:
if lives <= 0:
state = "over"
best = max(best, score)max keeps the larger number. A better game raises best; a worse one leaves it as it was.
Where you set best = 0 matters. reset() runs at the start of every game, so a best set there would be wiped by each R. Set it once, before the loop. It lasts as long as the program runs.
Show it on the game over screen, under the other two lines:
best_text = font.render(f"Best: {best}", True, WHITE)
screen.blit(best_text, best_text.get_rect(center=(240, 240)))Challenge
Easy- Set
best = 0once, afterstate = "menu". - When the game ends, set
best = max(best, score). - On the game over screen, show
Best: 12(with the best score) centred at (240, 240).
