A Timer Event
Part of the Game Rules section of Coddy's Pygame journey. Lesson 11 of 29.
A point for each rock that falls past rewards waiting. A point for each second you survive is fairer. pygame can send your game an event of its own every second.
Event types are numbers. pygame.USEREVENT is the first one pygame leaves free for you, so name yours from it:
POINT = pygame.USEREVENT + 1
...
pygame.time.set_timer(POINT, 1000)From then on, a POINT event arrives every 1000 ms with the other events, and you handle it like a key press:
if event.type == POINT and state == "play":
score += 1The timer keeps running on the menu and the game over screen, so test the state. Calling set_timer again restarts it, which is why it goes in reset(): each new game waits a full second for its first point.
Challenge
Medium- Add
POINT = pygame.USEREVENT + 1after the colours. - In
reset(), start a timer that sendsPOINTevery 1000 ms. - On a
POINTevent during play, add 1 to the score. - Rocks that fall past no longer score.
