Same Slope, Never Meet

Two lines with the same slope climb in step, so the gap between them never changes: they are parallel. y = 2x - 1 and y = 2x + 3 run four apart forever.
Same slope, constant gap: parallel lines
So parallel is a statement about m alone: same slope, different intercept. Two equations with the same slope AND the same intercept are not parallel; they are the same line written twice.

The line y = -x - 2 is drawn. Draw the line parallel to it through (0, 2).
