Test a Point

Part of the Graphs & Systems section of Coddy's Algebra journey. Lesson 44 of 64.

Choose a point off the boundary to decide which side to shade. For y < 2x + 3, test the origin: 0 < 2(0) + 3 is true. Shade the side of the boundary containing the origin.

Any point off the boundary works as a test point. The origin (0, 0) is the easiest choice, because substituting 0 for x and 0 for y is quick. If the test point satisfies the inequality, shade its side. If it does not, shade the other side.
