Solve for y
Part of the Graphs & Systems section of Coddy's Algebra journey. Lesson 20 of 64.
Equations rarely arrive pre-arranged. 2x + 3y = 6 is the same line as some y = mx + b, and finding which one is a solving job: get y alone, then multiply everything out.
2x + 3y = 6
3y = -2x + 6
y = (-2x + 6)/3
y = -2/3x + 2
Now the line reads openly: slope -2/3, intercept (0, 2). The last step, splitting the fraction across the sum, is what turns a correct answer into a readable one.
The habit to build: solve for y, then expand until the right side is a clean mx + b. Only then can m and b be read off.
