The Four Quadrants
Part of the Graphs & Systems section of Coddy's Algebra journey. Lesson 2 of 64.
The axes cut the plane into four quadrants, counted counter-clockwise from the upper right. The signs of x and y say which one a point is in: (+, +) upper right, (-, +) upper left, (-, -) lower left, (+, -) lower right.
One point in each quadrant, named by its signs
So a point can be placed roughly before counting a single step: (-5, 2) must land upper left, (1, -4) lower right. Reading the signs first is a habit that catches most plotting mistakes before they happen.
Challenge
Place the points (-3, 2) and (2, -4): one in the upper left quadrant, one in the lower right.
