The Two Intercepts

Part of the Graphs & Systems section of Coddy's Algebra journey. Lesson 29 of 64.

You can find both intercepts of 3x + 2y = 6 the same way. Set y = 0 to get 3x = 6, so x = 2 and the x-intercept is (2, 0). Set x = 0 to get 2y = 6, so y = 3 and the y-intercept is (0, 3).

To find an intercept, set the other variable to zero and solve. Every intercept is a point with one coordinate equal to zero, because it lies on an axis. The x-intercept has y = 0 and the y-intercept has x = 0.
