Habit Tracker: Streak

Part of the Projects section of Coddy's Flutter journey. Lesson 32 of 36.

Streaks keep people coming back: days in a row feel like something to protect. Here the streak is the longest run of done days in the week. Drink water, done Monday to Wednesday and on Friday, has a streak of 3.

Counting a run means walking the days in order with two numbers: run, the days in a row so far, and best, the longest run seen. A done day adds to the run; an open day resets it to 0.

int get streak {
  int best = 0;
  int run = 0;
  for (bool day in days) {
    if (day) {
      run++;
      if (run > best) best = run;
    } else {
      run = 0;
    }
  }
  return best;
}

Return best, not run: at the end of the loop run is only the last stretch, which is 0 if Sunday is open.

Show it under the week with a flame icon, orange while there is a streak and the theme's outline grey when there is none. "0 day streak" reads oddly, so say "No streak yet" then.

Challenge

Hard

Show streaks:

  • add the streak getter to Habit
  • under the week, after 12 pixels, add a Row: Icons.local_fire_department at size 20 (orange when the streak is above 0, the theme's outline otherwise), 4 pixels, and the text
  • the text is 3 day streak (with the real number), or No streak yet for 0
