Quiz: Results Message
Part of the Projects section of Coddy's Flutter journey. Lesson 18 of 36.
"You scored 5 out of 5" deserves more than a plain line. Finish the quiz with a big icon and a message that fits the result: a trophy for a perfect round, a thumbs up for most right, and some encouragement otherwise.
Three outcomes, checked from the best down, is an if / else if / else. Order matters: a perfect score is also more than half right, so test for it first.
if (score == total) {
message = 'Perfect!';
icon = Icons.emoji_events;
} else if (score * 2 >= total) {
message = 'Well done!';
icon = Icons.thumb_up;
} else {
message = 'Keep practicing!';
icon = Icons.school;
}score * 2 >= total means "at least half" without any rounding: 3 of 5 passes, 2 of 5 does not.
Declare message, icon and color before the if without a value. Dart checks that every branch gives each one a value before you use it.
This is the last lesson of the quiz. The checks play whole rounds: colors, score, results and Play again.
Challenge
MediumOn the results screen, above the score:
- a full score shows
Perfect!and an amberIcons.emoji_events - at least half shows
Well done!and a greenIcons.thumb_up - anything less shows
Keep practicing!andIcons.schoolin the theme's primary color
The icon is 96 pixels, then 16 pixels of space, the message in headlineMedium, 8 pixels, and the score line, now in titleMedium.
