Store: Quantities
Part of the Projects section of Coddy's Flutter journey. Lesson 25 of 36.
Add the mug twice and the cart lists it twice. Real carts show it once, with "2 ×". The cart should store how many of each product, which is a Map from product to quantity:
final Map<Product, int> _quantities = {};
int quantityOf(Product product) => _quantities[product] ?? 0;
void add(Product product) {
_quantities[product] = quantityOf(product) + 1;
notifyListeners();
}Reading a key the map does not have gives null, so ?? 0 turns "not in the cart" into 0. A map remembers the order keys were added, so the rows keep the order you shopped in.
The getters change with it. items becomes the map's keys, count adds up the quantities, and total multiplies each price by its quantity:
List<Product> get items => _quantities.keys.toList();
int get count => _quantities.values.fold(0, (sum, quantity) => sum + quantity);The cart screen still loops over cart.items. Because the getters kept their names, only the model and the row change.
Challenge
HardCount each product once:
- in
CartModel, replace the list with the_quantitiesmap,quantityOfand the newadd,itemsandcount - make
totaladdproduct.price * quantityOf(product)for each item - in each cart row, show
2 × $12.00as thesubtitle, and the row's own total (price times quantity) astrailing
