Store: Add to Cart
Part of the Projects section of Coddy's Flutter journey. Lesson 22 of 36.
The cart is wanted on two screens: the product page adds to it, and the grid shows how much is in it. Data that more than one screen needs goes in a model, shared with Provider.
class CartModel extends ChangeNotifier {
final List<Product> _items = [];
List<Product> get items => _items;
int get count => _items.length;
void add(Product product) {
_items.add(product);
notifyListeners();
}
}Wrap the whole app in a ChangeNotifierProvider in main, so every screen can reach the cart. The button only changes the cart, so it uses context.read<CartModel>().add(product). The grid shows the count, so it uses context.watch, which rebuilds the grid each time notifyListeners runs.
The count sits on the cart icon as a Badge, the small bubble apps use for unread messages. isLabelVisible: count > 0 hides it while the cart is empty.
Challenge
HardAdd to a shared cart:
- import
package:provider/provider.dart, write theCartModelfrom the theory and wrapMyAppin aChangeNotifierProviderthat creates it - on the product page, after 32 pixels of space, add a
FilledButton.iconwithIcons.add_shopping_cartandAdd to cart: it adds the product, hides any message already showing, and shows aSnackBarsayingAdded Backpack to your cart(with the product's name) - in the grid's
AppBaractions, showIcons.shopping_cartin aBadgewith the count, 24 pixels from the right
Try it yourself

import 'package:intl/intl.dart';

}
